Launching Alfeor: Revitalizing France’s Nuclear Equipment Sector

Today marks the launch of Alfeor, a new industrial platform dedicated to consolidating France’s network of high-precision nuclear equipment suppliers. It was created through the partnership between Alpera Partners and Les Équipes du Made in France (led by Arnaud Montebourg).

Alpera Partners and Les Équipes du Made in France are creating Alfeor, the new equipment supplier for the nuclear industry.

Nuclear energy is experiencing a revival, with nearly 40 new power plant projects underway in Europe and more than 100 worldwide. At the same time, new reactor types (SMRs, AMRs, etc.) are opening major opportunities for renewal and innovation across the industry.

France has a nuclear sector with unique, globally recognized expertise. To remain competitive and meet future demand, the industry must now invest and organize itself.

Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) make up 85% of active companies in the French nuclear sector, over 2,500 businesses employing nearly 40,000 people. Many of these SMEs, often based outside major cities, have suffered greatly from the lack of a long-term nuclear strategy for more than 15 years, putting historic expertise at risk. Preserving and developing this know-how has become essential.

To seize the opportunities of the nuclear revival, local SMEs face several challenges:

  • Recruiting and retaining talent to safeguard their skills
  • Financing investments in their workforce, industrial tools, working capital, and R&D
  • Competing with new international players while capturing opportunities in global markets

Consolidation of the French nuclear sector has become a national priority. Other industries have already achieved this by building leading first-tier suppliers (Valeo, Zodiac, Faurecia in automotive and aerospace) capable of competing internationally while strengthening French expertise, jobs, and local regions.

Our ambition: to build a leading nuclear equipment supplier, a first-tier partner to the industry’s major clients.

€60 million Investment from Alpera: A Long-Term Commitment

Alfeor aims to play a key role in supporting France’s nuclear revival, with projects ranging from new EPR reactors to modernization of the existing fleet, projects that demand strong domestic industrial capabilities.

The platform plans to grow through successive acquisitions, enabling SMEs to reach critical scale and serve major clients such as EDF and Framatome.

About Alfeor

Alfeor is a French industrial group investing in the acquisition, consolidation, and development of SME subcontractors within the nuclear supply chain. Its goal is to bring together their high-value, high-tech expertise under the umbrella of an independent mid-sized company.

Alfeor’s areas of expertise include: boiler-making, machining, foundry, welding, additive manufacturing, valves, fasteners, forging, metallurgical and mechanical testing and analysis (including destructive and non-destructive testing), and more.

The SMEs that make up Alfeor master these skills and provide design and manufacturing capabilities for equipment used in both civil and defense nuclear sectors. Beyond nuclear, they also serve other industries that require high-precision subcontractors.

Alfeor was born from the partnership between Les Équipes du Made in France of Arnaud Montebourg and Alpera Partners, both committed to strengthening France’s sovereign nuclear supply chain.

About Alpera Partners

Working alongside bold entrepreneurs, Alpera Partners creates, develops, and scales the leading groups of tomorrow through roll-up platforms.

Each year, Alpera Partners invests more than €80 million in equity to consolidate micro-cap companies in fragmented, high-growth markets, helping them expand both organically and through acquisitions. Target markets include healthcare, industry, business services, and real estate.

Through this strategy, Alpera Partners has launched two roll-up platforms: in hospitality (Otelium) and nuclear (Alfeor). These add to its established platform in veterinary healthcare (Novavet).
